Ranked hotel lists are the least useful thing on the MICE internet. The property that is perfect for 40 executives is wrong for 160 delegates with a conference, and availability changes weekly. What follows is the selection method instead.
Three reasons, and they are practical rather than coy. Availability changes constantly, so a list is stale within weeks. The right property depends entirely on headcount, dates and programme type. And any list that is not derived from live availability is either advertising or out of date.
What we do instead: when you send a brief, we come back with named properties, live availability and the specific trade-offs for your dates. That is worth considerably more than a page of logos.
| # | Criterion | How to check it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Function space against your layout | Dimensioned floor plan, not a capacity chart | The single most common cause of a venue not working |
| 2 | Rooms and function space on the same dates | Ask for both held together | The ballroom usually goes before the rooms |
| 3 | Pillar positions and ceiling height | Floor plan; below 3.5 m limits rigging | Ruins sightlines and staging |
| 4 | Breakfast capacity for a single group | Ask how 120 people at 07:30 is handled | Queues on day two set the tone |
| 5 | Distance from furthest rooms to function space | Walk it and time it | Ten minutes each way reshapes an agenda |
| 6 | Outdoor event area and power | Site visit; ask about generator positioning | Decides whether a beach gala is possible |
| 7 | Internet, actually tested | Speed test in the room, building occupied | Marketing figures are meaningless |
| Area | Character | Function space | Airport | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bai Truong | Main strip, busiest | Largest on the island | 15–20 min | 100+ delegates, conference-heavy |
| Bai Dai | North-west, quieter | Good at the larger properties | 30–40 min | Incentive programmes, leisure weighting |
| Duong Dong | Town | Limited | 10–15 min | Budget-led, programmes mostly off-property |
| An Thoi and south | Near cable car and islands | Limited | 25–35 min | Island-centred programmes |
Buyers focus on room rate because it is the number in the proposal. The terms below are frequently worth more, and they are more negotiable because they cost the hotel less.
We can, and we will — with live availability, against your specific brief. What we will not do is publish a static list, because it would be wrong within a month and it would be advertising rather than advice.
Three is right. Below three you have no leverage; above three you spend more time comparing than the difference is worth, and hotels can tell when they are one of eight.
From 120 delegates, yes. Below that, a dimensioned floor plan and a video walkthrough usually suffice. The inspection pays for itself the moment it catches a pillar or a load-in route problem.
